Welcome to the Website of the
North Wales Association of Church
Bellringers
News
The Association announces, with
great regret, the death of Eric Avery, tower captain at Llansilin, after a short
illness. Eric was a very active supporter of ringing in the Powys area and the
Association. Many people will miss him and ringing is the poorer for his early
death. The Association express its condolences to his wife and family. May he
rest in peace.
The Summer
Outing
to Barmouth, Machynlleth and Dolgellau was a success, so thank you to all who
attended. More details of the day can be read on the Association website at

The
Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM)
was called to insert a rule to allow
the Association members to change the rules at the AGM as well as by calling an
EGM. The motion was carried unanimously.
The
Association Striking Competition
will be held at Prestatyn on September 13th 2008 at 2.30 pm. The
competition rules remain the same as always, BUT the trophies will be
awarded as follows:-
-
The band that wins
will be presented with the Norah Randles Trophy, irrespective of whether it
rings rounds and call changes, or method.
-
The Shield will be
presented to the call change band that collects least faults.
-
However, if a call
change band wins the overall competition, then the shield will be presented to
the next best call change band.
This means that no
band can win both trophies and this system should encourage all those call
change bands in the Association to enter a band, as they will have the chance to
win one of two trophies. This has
a bearing on the next item...
The All-Wales
Striking Competition
for the Arthur Hoare Trophy will be held at Mold on Saturday September 27th
2008. Our President, the Bishop of St. Asaph has promised to be there and a six-
bell and an eight-bell band will be competing representing each of the four
Welsh Associations. If a call change band wins the North Wales Association
striking competition, it will be expected to ring in the All-Wales as our
representative in the six-bell competition. The eight-bell band will be drawn
from several towers across the Association, according to the rules.
There has been an erroneous perception that the
six-bell band must ring method, but, having checked the rules with the other
Associations we are all agreed that call changes can be rung, to the same rules
as our own Association competition. I believe that at least one other
Association has fielded a call change band in the past.
Hanmer November 8th
The Association will meet at Hanmer on November 8th 2008
and the AGM will be on March 14th 2009. The venue has
yet to be decided.
Note: Will all tower captains and secretaries please note that
Association meetings will normally be held on the second Saturday in March,
June, September and November and try not to arrange other events on these dates.

Denbigh Bells
It
came to the attention of the North Wales Association in recent months that the
Rector and PCC of Denbigh were interested in selling the bells in his Denbigh
church as they had never been rung since they were first installed.
Following the actions of Jason Hughes, Denbigh bells have now been rung full
circle and recorded. There is a possibility that the bells may be brought
back into ringing condition and the Rector and PCC are now interested in seeing
this happen.
